I = eye = Love
Electric light, like all-light we know, is a gift of God whatever you conceive Him to be.
If you think of the photo-synthesis you will agree with me that the existence of light is even so much important that life itself would be impossible without the availability of it.
Electric light has made our usable life longer by lengthening the day and shortening the night.
Light is so much essential that the human eye cannot do anything without it and the eye is the most important sense we have.
You can taste, feel, smell but what is life without the ability to see? Can we not read a book, a life-story, in a second when we look another person in the eye? When we have eye-contact? If you think about it you will agree with me that "eye" is much more important than "I" and it is very unlikely that the fact that you pronounce them the same world be a coincidence.
The spoken word I in Chinese stands for love like in “ Wo Ai Nee ” (= I love you) I rather believe we are looking at the third dimension of this language. A language inherited from our ancestors that has more to tell us than what we recognize at first sight. |
Light and Religion
There is hardly any religion or faith that does not emphasize on the mystery of light. There is an inter-face between holy light and the light in all its forms as we know it.
Many people who have been on the edge of life and death remember to have seen a kind of tunnel with an enormous powerful and beautiful light at the end of it.
It is not for me to go to much deeper in this subject but some findings about the inter-face are remarkable.
The eye and light
We have already agreed that the eye would be nothing without the light be it natural or electrical.
The eye however needs more and more light (lumens or luminosity) to function as it ages. A middle-aged person of 45 years needs 10 times (!) more light (lumens) than a child of 6 years in distinguishing the same things.
Your children can read a book with light of less than a candle (1 candela) and you will have experienced how much light elderly people need for that! See: eye and light
Good and energy-friendly lighting is of course the answer to satisfy these needs. Another important factor to consider is that the eye is the mirror of the soul.
Through the eye external lighting leads to internal enlightenment. Close the Equator people live a much more "take it easy" life than those living far to the north or south on this globe because of the influence of the sun which is the most powerful light-source we have.
Modern treatment against depression nowadays includes putting people in extreme highlighted rooms to cure. See : Lighting and human health
People under influence of high doses of light mentally mature earlier than those living in darker environments.
Thomas Alva Edison
It was Thomas Alva Edison who, in 1879, invented the first light-bulb that lasted for more that one hour.
He was the son of a family from Holland that emigrated to the United States seeking their better fortune.
Is it a coincidence that Holland even today plays such an important role in the world of lighting?
Is it a coincidence that Holland is often called the country of preachers and the teachers? I would not know.
But what I do know is that the inventions that Mr. Edison gave this world have a magic common ground. A magic key; a mystery around just one word and that is "communication".
The Morse-Code was his invention. Who does not know the S.O.S. signal "save our souls" from his hand?
And what would the world be today without his other inventions such as the phonograph and the telephone?
Yes, this Mr. Edison was blessed in giving our world all these communication tools. Perhaps the most important one was the invention of electric light which made our usable day longer enabling the eyes of humanity communicate longer and thus securing peace and friendship among those who could by communication better understand each other.
Light and energy
Light can only emit from light sources on the basis of the use of energy. The energy that we put into an incandescent ordinary light bulb is for 90% translated into heat and not into visible light. In that way a light bulb is more a heat source than a light source.
I am very pleased that with the development of our Compact Energy Saving Lamps we have curved this phenomenon down to more acceptable levels. Consumers can now enjoy our lumens at only 20% of the energy used and that with devices that have an 8 times longer life span!
Also the development of light emitting diodes is so fast that soon they will help us to save energy in almost any application where light is needed.
I feel very privileged with the opportunity to serve you with your lighting needs!
