When the power is cut, Smart-Light draws on its battery and continues to operate like an ordinary lamp – to be switched on or off as needed. The special electronic sensor in Smart Light’s housing differentiates between the "off" button and a power outage, as a microprocessor continually sends out digital pulses through the electrical circuit. If power is present, these pulses come back unchanged. When electrical resistance is encountered due to a power failure, it changes its signal and triggers the Smart-Light converter to draw current from the built-in battery.
