Cathodes

Fluorescent lamps operate by passing an arc of current across electrodes or cathodes at each end of the lamp. The coiled electrodes are made from tungsten wire and coated with a mixture of alkaline earth oxides. These oxides are designed to enhance the emission of electrons from the cathode
